About
Tata Steel Limited is an Indian multinational steel-making company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, with its principal manufacturing operations in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group. Formerly called Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited, Tata Steel ranked among the world’s fifty largest crude-steel producers in 2022–23, with an annual capacity of about 35 million tonnes. The group reported consolidated revenue of US $31 billion for the financial year that ended on 31 March 2023. With a domestic crude-steel capacity of 21.6 million tonnes, it is the largest steel producer in India; the Steel Authority of India Limited is the next largest. Tata Steel, SAIL and Jindal Steel and Power are the only Indian steel companies that operate captive iron-ore mines. Tata Steel operates in 26 countries, with key operations in India, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, employing around 78,300 workers globally. Its largest plant is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. In 2007, Tata Steel acquired the UK-based steelmaker Corus. In 2016, Tata Steel announced it would sell its UK business, including the Port Talbot steelworks, due to losses and various market factors. Wikipedia
